3/19 Update: Westside Closure Extended

Good afternoon, Westside families and staff members,

First off, we are so very proud of you. This week has been a challenge, to say the least, and more challenges remain. We are thankful for amazing teachers, staff, students, and families that have come together to show the COMMUNITY within Westside Community Schools. Thank you, to each and every one of you, for working together as a true team in this unprecedented and challenging time.

We are sending you this message to thank you for your support and teamwork, and to share an important update. Following recommendations from state and health department leaders, Westside Community Schools will now remain closed through Friday, May 1, 2020

We miss our students and staff. We miss the Class of 2020. Please understand that we will continue to follow health department guidelines and state-level directives as we always prioritize the safety of our students and staff. We will do everything in our power, if it is deemed safe to do so, to have Prom, Graduation, and other important events in some fashion to honor our seniors. We continue to work on all kinds of alternative plans in case we are able to return and gather in May.

Our Extended Campus Learning plan will continue for all PreK-12 students. Teachers will use Mondays for planning; instruction will take place for all students Tuesday-Friday. We have asked educators to be available and accessible to all families during traditional school days/hours. We are also organizing parent resources to provide ideas for what you can do with your children on Mondays while teachers are planning for the week ahead. REMINDER — We will observe our Spring Break the week of April 6-10. No academic assignments will be issued that week.

Westside Community Schools will continue to offer meals once a week to ensure all students have food at home during these closures.

Monday, March 23 from 8:30am-12:30pm

Monday, March 23 from 4:00pm-7:00pm

*** Plan on these locations and times shown above for each Monday that we are out of school, to include Monday, April 6th when we are on Spring Break.

Every child who shows up (ages 1-18) at one of our drive up sites will receive 5-days worth of meals (breakfast and lunch) to take home. There is no charge, and no ID is required. While this is intended for Westside Community Schools students, we will not turn children away.

We know we have thrown a lot of information at you in recent weeks. To organize the flow of information and help you find answers quickly, we have compiled a COVID-19 Resource Guide for Westside Community Schools. CLICK HERE.

We encourage you to bookmark this link on your phone or device – we will update this everyday as information changes or new details become available. This guide includes information on how to apply for free WiFi at home, resources on talking to your children about Coronavirus, links to how you can help Westside families (or access help), and more.

This is a tough and challenging time for us all.  We must stay positive and keep working together.  This historic crisis will make us grow stronger and more united in the long run.  Please take care of yourselves and each other.  Please stay in touch and let us know if we can better support you.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
